In this unit, students will extend their knowledge of rational numbers and absolute value to include plotting points and exploring distance using coordinates having the same x or y coordinate on a four quadrant coordinate plane.
Key Concepts:
 The coordinate plane is two number lines, one horizontal and one vertical; two pieces of information are necessary to designate a position on the coordinate plane. (Lesson 1)
 The concept of "opposites" is extended into the coordinate plane as the points (a, b) and (a,b) are reflections about the yaxis and (a,b) and (a,b) are reflections about the xaxis. (Lesson 4)
 Absolute value is used to find the distance between points in the plane that differ by one coordinate. (Lesson 7)
