In this unit, students come to understand that measurement involves different tools and systems of units and identify how the number of units and the size of the unit chosen relate to the measured lengths. Students select and use standard units of measure and measurement tools to measure an object twice and focus on counting the units of the measured length and not focus on the numbers on the measurement tools.

 For a given measurement task, certain measurement tools will be more appropriate than others.
 There is an inverse relationship between the size of a unit of measurement and the number of those units it takes to equal a given length.
