Big Ideas: Measurement is a consistent duration and distance or, in the case of money, the value of units are consistent. Measurement units may be compared. Coins and bills are monetary units that can be measured. This task gives students the opportunity to count mixed groups of coins. Starting with a constant set of coins, student select two additional coins to add to their group. By finding the value and repeating the task, they notice that the value of individual coins changes the total value of the set. Vocabulary: penny, nickel, dime, quarter, value Special Materials: coins: pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters
