Lesson objective: Apply knowledge of patterns in corresponding terms in a real-world problem.

This lesson provides an opportunity for students to apply their knowledge and understanding of numerical patterns to a real-life situation. Students are asked to generate and analyze two number patterns based on two girls' cookie dough sales. 

Key Concept students will use: 

  • A relationship can exist between two different number patterns and their matching values.

Skills students will use:

  • generate patterns and identify relationships in corresponding terms 
  • understanding of multiplicative comparisons (Grade 4, Unit 6)

Students engage in Mathematical Practice 7 (Look for and make use of structure) as they analyze the two number patterns and determine what relationship exists. Students use the relationship to answer questions in the task.
