Big Ideas: Functions provide a means for describing and understanding relationships between variables. Exponential functions are characterized by a dramatic decrease followed by smaller decreases or a small increase followed by a dramatic increase. Students can graph exponential functions and understand that exponential graphs have dramatic increases or decreases followed by smaller ones. They also understand that in theory, this type of function will continue forever, but that in real world situations there are constraints that may limit its growth or decline. Vocabulary: discrete points, continuous points, constraint Special Materials: Graph paper Straight edge or ruler Graphing calculator (optional) Scientific calculator (optional)
