Big Ideas: A sample space is the set of all possible outcomes for an event. If there is a common element in two sets, it is not repeated when listing the elements in the union of the two sets. Students will determine the intersection and union of two subsets of a sample space by examining some particular examples. This lesson builds on students’ knowledge about sets and sample space which were informally developed in seventh grade. Special Materials: It would be useful for the teacher to have a pair of dice. Students, however, don't need to have their own dice.
