Big Ideas: The formula: P(B|A) = P(A ∩ B)/P(A) can be used to compute conditional probability. When the formula is rewritten: P(A ∩ B) = P(A)∙P(B|A) it is called the General Multiplication Rule. Students were formally introduced to probability in seventh grade with the standard 7.SP-5. This lesson is an introduction to the concept and computation of conditional probability using a formula. The lesson also uses the rewritten form of the formula, called the General Multiplication Rule.
