Big Ideas: Some data sets are very large. We can look at a representative sample to predict what will happen for large sets of data. Not all samples are representative. Students will attempt to generalize about the heights of students in their school using their class as a sample, and discover that the sample is not representative. By doing this, they will begin to reason about what makes a sample representative. Vocabulary: sample, population, representatative, probability Special Materials: Could use a set of plastic spiders for a small sample space
