Big Ideas: We can model the difference between two measurements using a number line. In this lesson students will compare objects against a ruler. They will be finding the difference between a ruler and an object that is longer than a ruler. Students will be observed to see how they compare objects to find the difference: counting up from the smaller, counting down from the larger, or using other math tools. Vocabulary: number line, equal spaces, compare, how much more, how much less Special Materials: student number lines 0-100 classroom number line (optional) measuring tools (optional)
