Big Idea: The perimeter of rectangles can be calculated using the formula P= (2 x l) + (2 x w). Building off an understanding of the formula for calculating the area of rectangles, students will explore the perimeter of rectangles and develop their understanding of the formulas for perimeter. They will explore the relationship between the dimensions of a rectangle and its perimeter by looking at the area of rectangles made up of the same number of square inch tiles. Vocabulary: perimeter, length, width, dimension, unit, calculate, formula Special Materials: square inch tiles graph paper
