Big Ideas: Skip counting can be used to quickly count groups that are the same size. This task asks students to apply what they already know about skip counting by twos, fives, and tens. This task builds on previous 1st grade skip counting standards. Here, students are applying the skip counting to solve a word problem and are required to not just find a sum, but reason about what the problem is asking. Students are ultimately asked to find the number of groups required to skip count up to a given number, which gives students the opportunity to dig into the Big Idea and understand what skip counting is and why it is useful.
