Big Ideas: Each time we increase one side length by one unit, the volume of our prism grows by one layer. This lesson builds on previous work students have done in calculating volume by counting cubes. This task asks students to change the dimensions of prisms and examine the corresponding changes in volume. Experience calculating what happens to a prism when all three dimensions double will give students a greater conceptual understanding of the 3-dimensional attribute prisms have.
