Big Ideas: If a number is even, it can always be paired and make 2 equal groups. Odd numbers cannot be paired or divided into 2 equal groups. However, some odd numbers can be divided into equal groups. This lesson builds on students' work with odd and even numbers. In this task, students extend their conceptual knowledge of odd numbers to include the essential understanding that some odd numbers can be equally divided into more than 2 groups. This lesson builds towards students' work with multiplication and the concepts of prime and composite numbers. Vocabulary: even/evenly, odd, pairs, partners, left out/left over Special Materials: counters crayons
