Big Ideas: Exact solutions of linear systems can be found algebraically. A variable from a linear system can be eliminated using addition in order to solve the system. Students will algebraically solve a system of equations using elimination by addition. They will be asked to consider which variable is more advantageous to eliminate or how an equation within the system can be manipulated to eliminate a variable. Instead of applying their knowledge of using graphs to estimate the solution of a linear system, students will manipulate the equations within the system to determine the exact solution.
