Big Ideas: There are a variety of appropriate units, strategies, and tools when measuring the volume of objects and spaces. Volume is a unique attribute of solids that explains how much space an object takes up. This lesson provides students with exposure to the ideas of volume and recognizing the differences among linear, square, and cubic units. In the task, students investigate a variety of scenarios that require measurement reasoning. The lesson builds towards further work with using volume to understand rules and properties of addition and multiplication. Vocabulary: linear measurement, square unit, cubic unit, net, volume, area, base, length, width, height
