Big Ideas: The volume of a prism can be found by finding the product of the area of the base and its height. A prism with the same volume can have different shapes and also dimensions (l, w, and h). This lesson builds on students' work with whole numbers and volume. The task explores real world problems to generate student thinking related to the use of the formulas V=l x w x h and V=B x h to find volume. Students are asked to consider how many ways a right rectangular prism (fish tank) can be built and still have a volume of 30 cubic feet.
