Big Ideas: Multiplying by 1/10 is the same as dividing by 10. This standard calls for students to reason about the magnitude of numbers. Students will work with the idea that the ones place is 1/10 of the place to its left. In fourth grade, students examined the relationships of the digits for whole numbers only. This standard extends this understanding to the relationship of decimal fractions. Vocabulary: place value, decimal, decimal point, divide, tenths, hundredths, thousandths Special Materials: place value chart
