Big Ideas: Numbers can be written in multiple forms. Expanded form focuses on the values of the digits in standard form numbers. In this lesson, students will be writing numbers in various forms based on scoops of candy from a candy store. Candy scoops come in three different sizes (hundreds, tens, and ones), allowing students to focus on expanded form and how the values relate to the digits in a number. Vocabulary: expanded form, value, digit, place, standard form, numeral, number word Special Materials: Candyopolis Purchase Chart
