Grade 12 - 8 - Paving the Pathway: Steps Forward in the Journey

This lesson will identify and evaluate five key figures on the path to self-government.

Students . . .

  • review the contributions of significant leaders in the home rule journey through use of a Key Figures Organizer. 
  • compare the achievements of each leader.
  • evaluate the significance of the leaders through completion of an Exit Ticket to gauge their understanding of the lesson.

How to use this lesson:

There are two use cases for the Ready for More modules. 1) Delivered whole class by the teacher or 2) student-managed independently or in small groups. If students are working independently, ensure students orient themselves with the directions on the first card of the lesson.

  • 12.DC.22.6: Review the reasons why Washington, D.C. residents do not have voting representation in Congress, and assess the prospects for current efforts to get congressional representation for the District.
