Big Ideas: The distributive property can be used to simplify linear equations. This lesson will give students the experience of applying the distributive property to simplify and solve single variable linear equations using integers. This should be an expansion of the work they did in sixth and seventh grades. Students should recognize the distributive property as a useful method for simplifying expressions. This lesson uses only integers. Successive lessons will present problems with decimals and fractions. Vocabulary: Distributive property, Like terms, Factor
