Daily Learning Target

  • I can plan the plot of my new scene for Summer of the Mariposas that results in the same outcome as the original scene. 

Purpose of Lesson

  • In this lesson, students will use the Storyboard Graphic Organizer to plan the plot of their new scene of Summer of the Mariposas. Then, they will receive feedback about their plan from a peer. 

In Advance

  • Prepare the following:
    • Entrance Ticket: Unit 2, Lesson 9
    • Storyboard Graphic Organizer model (for display) 
  • Strategically pair students for partner work in Work Time B. 
  • Ensure there is a copy of Entrance Ticket: Unit 2, Lesson 9 at each student’s workspace. 
  • Post the Learning Targets and applicable anchor charts (see Materials list).

Digital Materials Preparation:

  • Prepare to display and assign the lesson and new digital materials to students before class.
  • For digital assignments, ensure that students have access to a digital device.
  • Be sure students have access to their Character and Setting Planner (assigned in Lesson 8, used in Lessons 8, 9 and 10).
  • Be sure students have access to their Unit 2 Digital Vocabulary Log.
  • Be sure students have access to their Unit 2 Digital Independent Reading Journal in order to complete the homework assignment.

New Digital Materials to Assign:

  • Storyboard Graphic Organizer (students will access this digital material in Lessons 9, 10 and 11 and Unit 3, Lesson 5
  • Storyboard Graphic Organizer (triangle) (students will access this digital material in Lessons 9 and 11)
