Lesson objective: Find objects based on benchmark lengths and use the appropriate measurement tool to determine length.

This lesson helps to build procedural skill with measurement and estimating length to help students choose the most appropriate measurement tool. Benchmark lengths are used here because they support students as they choose the most appropriate measurement tool based on the length of each object. This work develops students' understanding that for a given measurement task, certain measurement tools will be more appropriate than others.

Students engage in Mathematical Practice 5 (Use appropriate tools strategically) as they participate in a measurement scavenger hunt using benchmark lengths to help choose appropriate tools to measure length.
