Big Idea: You can identify a linear function from a table if there are equal differences for equal intervals. This lesson builds on students' work with identifying linear functions by looking at the rate of change. This task uses a table of values to help the student look for a consistent rate of change to answer questions and to recognize whether or not the table's values represent a linear function. The big idea of this lesson is that a linear function can be identified when linking equal differences to equal intervals. The lesson builds towards identifying other types of functions and recognizing patterns within a table of values. Vocabulary: Linear Function, Rate of Change, Independent Value, Dependent Value
