Lesson objective: Apply the skill of measuring to a real world problem.

This lesson provides an opportunity for students to apply their knowledge and understanding of measuring objects to a real-life  situation. Students are asked to help Ron and his principal measure and sort playground equipment.

Key Concept students will use: 

  • An object's length remains the same regardless of its position relative to another object.

Skills students will use:

  • measurement techniques
  • ability to sort

Students engage in Mathematical Practice 5 (Use appropriate tools strategically) as they measure each piece of playground equipment.
