Lesson objective: Gain exposure to using measurement tools for weight.

This lesson provides an opportunity for students to apply their knowledge and understanding of comparing the single attribute of weight to a real-life situation. Students are asked to help two students determine which of their containers is heavier.

Key Concept students will use: 

  • Objects can be compared based on an attribute they share

Skills students will use:

  • identifying a single attribute between objects
  • comparing
  • articulating differences between objects

Students engage in Mathematical Practice 3 (Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others) as they predict and determine which student is correct in this situation.
