Lesson objective: Count on to add two numbers together.

This lesson helps to build the procedural skill of counting on to add. Pictures and number sentences are used here because they support students' understanding of counting on through visuals and relationships between numbers. This work develops students' understanding that we can use counting to add because counting on from a number is the same as adding to a number.

Students engage in Mathematical Practice 6 (Attend to precision) as they add two numbers using the counting on strategy accurately and efficiently through a dice game.
