Lesson objective: Compare integers by looking at their distance and direction from zero and each other.

Students bring prior knowledge of integers from 6.NS.5. This prior knowledge is extended to comparing integers as students reason about an integers location with regards to zero and other integers. A conceptual challenge students may encounter is comparing negative integers. 

The concept is developed through work with A number line, which allows students to visually see an integers location in comparison to other integers and zero.

This work helps students deepen their understanding of numbers because they are reasoning about a number's size and value when compared to other integers.

Students engage in Mathematical Practice 2 (Reason Abstratly and Quantitativly) as they compare integer values by reasoning about their size, distance and direction from zero.
