Lesson objective: Read analog clocks to the half hour.

This lesson helps to build fluency with recognizing the minute hand on the six. Analog clocks set to the hour and half hour are used here because they highlight the role of the minute hand in telling time. This work develops students' understanding that two half hours are the same as one hour.

Students engage in Mathematical Practice 6 (Attend to precision) as they must accurately read and interpret analog clocks set to the hour and half hour.

Key vocabulary:

  • Analog clock
  • Minute hand
  • Half hour

Special materials needed:

  • Small manipulative clocks
