This lesson focuses on finding evidence in the text to support the author's claim that the situation in Nome looked bleak. The day begins with an oral rereading of the text. Students are then asked to reread the section "A Deadly Disease Spreads" independently prior to exploring the text-dependent questions. Students may work in small groups or in pairs to complete questions on the student notes sheet. The focus question should be completed independently for assessment purposes.
