Lesson objective: Apply strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division or properties of operations to multiply and divide.

This lesson provides an opportunity for students to apply their knowledge and understanding of using strategies to solve mathematical situations.  Students are asked to construct and read tables to solve a problem involving money spent.

Key Concept students will use:

  • drawings and equations to represent and solve multiplication and division situational problems involving equal groups and arrays

Skills students will use:

  • the relationship between multiplication and division

  • properties of operations to multiply and divide

Students engage in Mathematical Practice 2 (reason abstractly and quantitatively) as they represent word problems numerically.

Key vocabulary:

  • labels
  • table
