Big Ideas: There are various ways to solve a word problem. Investigating and developing arguments are ways to assess your answer. This lesson builds on students’ work with solving two-step word problems. The task uses a scenario in which students will investigate the various solving methods and assess the reasonableness of an answer. Students will be building their foundational knowledge of understanding how there are various ways to investigate a word problem. The mathematical concepts in this lesson build towards students’ future work with solving word problems using multiple operations.
