Big Ideas: We can use rounding to estimate products and assess the reasonableness of solutions. This lesson builds on students’ work with taking whole numbers and rounding them to the nearest ten. The task uses a scenario in which students will assess how many packages of a certain quantity they will need to fit the needs of the concert. Students will be building their foundational knowledge of place value and multiplication. The mathematical concepts in this lesson build towards students’ future work with rounding to the nearest hundred and multiplying multiple digit numbers.
