Big Ideas: A good question guides our data collection. Collected data can be organized into a bar graph. Data in a bar graph can be analyzed for information. This lesson builds on students’ work with sorting and organizing pieces of information. This task uses a scenario in which students will evaluate Joshua's process of collecting, organizing, analyzing information. Students will be building their foundational knowledge of data collection by analyzing bar graphs and the information derived from them. The mathematical concepts in this lesson build towards students’ future work with pictographs, line graphs, and pie graphs. Vocabulary: data, bar graph, analyze Special Materials: Math Journal
