Grade 12 - 1 - Action Bulletin No. 8

In this lesson, students will be conducting a close reading of a portion of Action Bulletin No. 8 from the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, a document included in the Sit-in Songs songbook included in the D.C. Public Library's Poor People's Campaign Collection. The bulletin was written just one week following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. and address what members could do as a call to action to support his work. With the guidance of the teacher, students will examine a specific call to action in the bulletin, contacting their congressperson in support of legislation stemming from the recently-released Kerner Report. Students will be recording their learning on the "Action Bulletin No. 8" handout throughout the activity.
