Big Ideas: Number lines can be used to express whole numbers as fractions. This lesson builds on students' understanding that whole numbers can be represented on a number line. Students already learned that a whole is the sum of its fractional parts. The task requires students to express whole numbers as fractions by using a number line to determine equivalence. This builds toward students' understanding of adding and subtracting mixed numbers. Vocabulary: fraction, equivalent, numerator, denominator, whole, part, partition, number line Special Materials: None
