Lesson objective: Fluently identify functions from various representations.
This lesson helps to build fluency with identifying functions. Tables of values, mappings, verbal descriptions and graphs are used here because it supports the idea that a function can be represented in a variety of ways. This work develops students' understanding that a function is a relationship in which each input value is paired with one output value.
Students engage in Mathematical Practice 4 (modeling with mathematics) as they seek to interpret and create different models of functions.
Key vocabulary:
- function
- linear function
- mapping
- table of values
- vertical line test
