Lesson objective: Apply measuring differences in length between two objects.

This lesson provides an opportunity for students to apply their knowledge and understanding of measuring differences to a real-life situation. Students are asked to find multiple pairs of screws that have a 3 centimeter difference in lengths.

Key Concept students will use: 

  • Measurement can be used to determine how much longer one object is than another.

Skills students will use:

  • Measuring lengths with a centimeter ruler

Students engage in Mathematical Practice 1 ( Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them) as they select and test different pairs of screws using various strategies, such as using a ruler and combining differences.
