Lesson objective: Practice finding the surface area of prisms and pyramids.

This lesson provides an opporutiny to practice findhing surface area. Drawings of three-dimensional figures are used here because they allow students to understand the properties of a three-dimensional figure from a two-dimensional image. This work develops students' understanding that surface area is always the sum of the area of each face of the figure.

Students engage in Mathematical Practice 7 (Look for and make use of structure) as they identify all the faces of a prism or pyramid and use the shape of the faces to create and use a formula to find the surface area.
