Lesson 18: Plan an argumentative essay

Students will begin writing an argumentative essay by analyzing the writing prompt, planning their response, and gathering evidence.

  • A downloadable audio recording of Out of the Dust  is available here.

Additional Notes:

  • There are two versions of the argument structure organizer handout:
    • Argument structure organizer handout (blank) is completely blank, and can be used with students who are proficient with writing claims, reason statements and evidence statements.
    • Argument structure organizer handout (started) contains a claim, one reason statement, and one piece of evidence to be used as a model by students less familiar with the argument structure.
