Lesson objective: Fluently determine patterns of association in a bivariate set of data.

This lesson helps to build fluency with patterns of association in a bivariate set of data. A scatter plot is used here because it highlights associations between variables giving a picture of the data. This work develops students' understanding that patterns of association may emerge when bivariate data are displayed in a scatter plot.

Students engage in Mathematical Practice 5 (Use appropriate tools strategically) as they use a scatter plot to describe any patterns of association between variables.
