Lesson objective: Convert measurements in one unit to another unit.

This lesson helps to build fluency with measurement conversion. Ratio tables are used here because it supports the understanding that multiplicative relationships exist in measurement conversions. This work develops students' understanding that like ratios, measurement systems involve multiplicative relationships.

Students engage in Mathematical Practice 5 (use appropriate tools strategically) as they use ratio tables in order to model their thinking and identify multiplicative relationships.

Key vocabulary:

  • equivalent
  • multiplicative
  • ratio
