Big Ideas:
An informal argument can show the angle relationships of parallel lines cut by a transversal.
Equivalence of angles can be represented in many ways.
In this lesson, students will develop a sense of the congruent angle relationships formed by parallel lines intersected by a transversal. They will use Patty Paper or tracing paper to copy the bottom intersection and slide and rotate it onto the top to find congruent angles. This lesson builds upon prior knowledge of types of angles and congruence. Students may need to refer back to vertical and supplementary angles, as well as knowledge of translations and rotations.
Vocabulary: parallel lines, transversal, intersection, congruent, vertical, supplementary, translation, rotation
