Big Ideas: Multiplication and division are inverses of each other. This lesson asks students to find missing parts to a division problem when dividing a unit fraction by a whole number. The task encourages students to use the relationship between multiplication and division in order to find the missing parts in the division problems. It should follow strong, conceptualized lessons within which students worked to construct many models of fraction division. The mathematical concepts in this lesson build toward students' future work with division of fractions in sixth grade.
