Big Ideas: The side lengths and angle measures of right triangles create the trigonometric functions sine and cosine, which allow us to find an unknown side length of a triangle. The relationship between the two acute angles in a right triangle creates a special relationship between the sine and cosine function. This lesson builds on students' understanding that side lengths and angle measures of right triangles have special relationships. This task introduces two new basic trigonometric functions, sine and cosine, so that students can calculate the length of sides of right triangles. The task continues to deepen students' understanding of how the two acute angles relate to each other, and how that relationship affects the relationship between the sine and cosine functions.
