Big Ideas: The side lengths of right triangles have a special relationship. The sides of 45-45-90 special right triangles follow a pattern. The sides of 30-60-90 special right triangles follow a pattern. This lesson emphasizes the special relationship that occurs with two special types of right triangles. This task allows students to create their own rule for the side lengths of 45-45-90 and 30-60-90 triangles. This understanding will help students to see that trigonometric functions are based upon angle measures and the relationship that creates with side lengths of right triangles. That leads directly to the discussion in the next lesson of this unit.
