Big Ideas: The side lengths and angle measures have special relationships which create the trigonometric function tangent so that the unknown side lengths can be found. This lesson builds on the students' understanding that the sides of right triangles have special relationships. The introduction of trigonometric functions now begins to build the understanding that angles of right triangles also have special relationships. The task focus is on the student's ability to write the equation correctly using the appropriate values in the ratio regardless of what information is unknown. This leads into the other basic trigonometric functions and inverses of those functions. Vocabulary: opposite side, adjacent side, tangent function, ratio
