Big Ideas: Understand that details like the size of intervals and relationship to 0 allow us to find the accurate value of a number on a number line. This lesson builds on students' ability to locate and relate numbers on a number line and determine their value. Students have compared rational numbers on the same number line or without number line representation. This task asks students to compare two rational numbers that are given on two different number lines. This lesson builds towards students being able to recognize two rational numbers on different number lines as coordinates of a specific location on a coordinate plane. Special Materials: rulers (optional)
