Big Ideas: We can find information about polygons on the coordinate plane by applying knowledge of distance between coordinates. This lesson builds on students' ability to graph polygons and find the distance between two points on the coordinate plane. The task has students practicing their ability to graph ordered pairs and find distances between them. Students will create a rectangle on the coordinate plane and discover its perimeter. They are then asked to draw a second rectangle with a perimeter twice as large as the first. This lesson builds towards students' ability to solve real-world problems on the coordinate plane.
