This is lesson one of a five day close reading on the text, "Adult Stem Cell Research Shows Promise." This lesson lays the groundwork for close reading by helping the reader understand the author's explicit claim. Today's work requires students to delineate the evidence the author provides to support this claim, and to identify places where the author acknowledges conflicting viewpoints. Special Materials: Students need to have a copy of the text and a pen or pencil. Teachers may choose to project the text using a document camera or overhead projector.
