This culminating writing task allows for students to connect all the close reading activities they have done over the previous week. The essay question expects readers to use Anna Quindlen's purpose for writing the personal essay to determine the claim she makes at the end stating, "They are not the homeless. They are people who have no homes." Students must cite and use several pieces of text evidence to support this claim. Determining the text structure, vocabulary meanings, and using Quindlen's personal feelings towards homelessness will allow students to support this claim with sound reasoning. Special Materials: Students will need a copy of the anchor text.
